Final ThoughtsI can't believe I'm finaly finished!!!!!!!! I loved the program and wish more people participated in Anoka County. If it were up to me it would have been manditory. For me this program was more about having time to think about the future of the library rather then learning about new things but I did learn a few more things and I took the time to use some things that I knew were out there but never tried using. I'm really excited about all of the things it sparked people to do especially one of our childrens librarians started a mock Newberry award called Anokaberry and I think it is amazingly wonderfull!!!!!!!!!! I've watched all of us who participated grow, learn, and bond over these 23 things and I loved it.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-76700061489282146262008-04-15T18:19:00.000-07:002008-04-15T18:26:36.108-07:00Thing 19: PodcastsWell to be prefectly honest I'm not excited about this thing. I don't really understand why you would want to only listen to something like this. Everything now days is flashy and I have to admit I'm just as addicted to the Ohhh look it's shiny and pretty as most people from my generation are and I think that I'd much rather have these conversations or shows recorded and put on YouTube. I guess it's good for people who have older MP3 players that don't have screens to watch stuff on but it's only a matter of time before those are as rare as an old Walkman cassete player. I did go to several of the websites and listened to many podcasts but I just think I will choose diffrent methods of information and entertainment.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-22481972819659441882008-04-15T17:47:00.000-07:002008-04-15T18:26:50.147-07:00Thing 22. What Did I Learn Today?I think I will keep up with my blogging. I've found that it is really nice to be able blurt out anything that pops into your head and out of your fingers. I'm really glad that I work with a few people who did 23things because we all encourage eachother and continue to, even after some of us have finished. I'm also planning on working on my Anoka County Library Policy wiki now that I've finished 23things. I'm still amazed at the resources we all have available to us and found that it is always worth taking the time to learn about. I'm also on going back to school and I found that I will be using a lot of these 23 resources to help me.

Yippeee! Beyond MySpace: Other Social NetworksI added the Ning badge to my blog here and I also added the Ning badge to my Myspace. I really like Ning but I always love all that stuff. I have a Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, Okaycupid (has really fun user made quizes), Fubar (only online bar lol), and many more but I don't check them frequently. The world is filled with online social networks and it's just up to you to find every one your intrested in. I set up my Ning account, added a background, added a photo, requested friends, joined the group anokaberry, and joined the college 2.0 group. Lots of fun. There is so much out there it seemes like you could look for days and still not see all of it.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-19519753800212560912008-04-10T15:20:00.000-07:002008-04-10T15:42:13.422-07:00Thing 20. Libraries and Social NetworksMyspace and Facebook... all of the time I've wasted. I've had a Myspace and a Facebook for quite a few years now and yes I am addicted!! I think I like Facebook better because of all the application and because it is a little more secure but when you first join Myspace it is way more fun. Especially learning how to ad the perfect background, cursor roll overs, scroll boxes, games, and picture effects. You can and will spend hours decorating and redecorating your "space". I also liked that Myspace was less secure and has more people on it. I found a friend I havn't seen since I was twelve years old and we talk all of the time now. That is why Myspace is awesome. Myspace is for all of those snoopy people out there (including me) because everyone you've ever known is on there and talking about everything and I mean everything in there life. I took a look at some of the library groups on Facebook and thought they are a great resource. I also looked at some of the Library Myspace accounts and I thought it was great! Once again I have to wonder why Anoka County has to have the ABSOLUTE WORST when it comes to technology. There are so many free things we could easily do to improve Anoka County Libraries and the worst part is even when we show initiative to do some of the simple things ourselves we are told we can't, but they have the time and budget to have SirsiCirc meetings every other week where they do what? NOTHING! Well at least nothing productive. I guess it comes down to one of those things where all you can say is when I rule the world things will be perfect. ;)karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-87454668758947194382008-04-09T08:54:00.000-07:002008-04-09T10:00:17.699-07:00Thing 17. ELM Productivity Tools1. Gale (Now Cengage Learning)
I did the search for youth smoking and got RSS feed about it and they even sent me emails when there was new information! I can see where that would be very useful for all sorts of things. I know that I will use it for school and I'm always researching stuff just for the fun of it so this would really be handy to use for that.

2. EBSCO
Wow is all I have to say. I've made a website before but I did it from scratch using HTML and this is so much easier and takes all of the work out of it! It is very very easy to set up a website with this tool. My site has butterflies in the background and says Yippee! This is my site. I had a lot of fun doing this and is definitely a great resource for a simple website.

3. ProQuest
Another great resource! So much to do, so little time. You could spend a lifetime setting up RSS feeds on everything your interested in or making websites and adding information. It's a big world out there baby! lol I found the direction very simple and easy to understand and the project easy to do. When I was first looking at this thing I thought it seemed like it was going to be difficult and a lot of work but here I am almost done and haven't had any problems yet!

4. NetLibrary
This one I actually liked. I think I might actually use this after I'm done with 23things. Like I said I like to research stuff a lot and I would love to be able to just look online and make notes without having to go to the library try and find and request the book on the information I'm interested in (if they even have any) and then try and copy pages or something like that because we all know librarians get mad if you put post it notes in books.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-81882662723325278462008-04-06T22:25:00.001-07:002008-04-08T18:33:03.910-07:00Thing 8. Sometimes I can look at the HTML and fix it and sometimes I can't. I am amazed at how much HTML you learn just by doing a lot of these little things. I learned the most from wanting a specific background for my Myspace page and figured out all of the color codes and things like that. As far as this project I can't really see how we could use it for the library other then to just make our website more attractive (which it desperatly needs!)karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-1344468033099535682008-04-05T09:34:00.000-07:002008-04-08T15:49:33.284-07:00Thing 18. YouTube & Other Online VideoI've used YouTube for a long time now and it's a great site. I think there are so many ways that we could use little movie clips to improve the library! A great one would be intructions for our very picky self charge machine or video clips on our website showing some of our summer reading program activities we have. I have to admit that personally I like funny or die better it's just like Youtube but it's all funny clips you can vote on. For my clip I thought I would put something else that is on a stick. Online Games and LibrariesWell I have to say that I think MMOPRGs are kinda creepy. I've played World of Warcraft or WOW as it's called and I enjoy the gaming but I think a lot of people get so involved that they lose a little reality. I think the resources that second life has are great but when it comes to role playing games some people don't know when to say when. I've known people who get so addicted to playing these games that they now call themselves a recovering WOW addict but I guess everyone has their things whether it's eating, drinking, or even reading a little to much we all have our weaknesses. There is a balance to everything and I think that's what we need to think of when we consider gaming or other things for the library. I think that having some simple games on our kids library page would be a good idea or making hour library website more like a Myspace or Facebook where people could set up there accounts with a picture and blogs or games applications that they like. But I also understand how frustrating it can be to have someone come up to you and want to do research and all the computers are filled with people gaming. Like I said it's a balance.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-26668803118528882732008-04-04T22:15:00.001-07:002008-04-05T08:24:51.200-07:00Thing 5. I do see how it can be really usefull. As far as the file converters I have used some before but I honestly don't remember which ones and all I have to say about those is when you need them you need them and they are great. I think my favorite thing I made was an account with stikkit. They seemed to have some pretty neat resources.

It's ridiculous to not use what you have available especially with our limited budgets and so much of it is free.

Now to get back on track with this task. I use email, instant messaging, and text messaging everyday and I see how they could be extremely useful at the library. Web conferencing seemed like a great idea and kinda reminded me of chat rooms with web cams so all though it wasn't familiar it still seemed familiar.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-72583087709599751992008-02-12T17:59:00.000-08:002008-02-26T16:28:00.873-08:00Thing 2 Library 2.0I looked at all the information on library 2.0 and that thing that amazes me the most is the fact that some people are apposed to using technology to it's full advantage. I guess I understand because at the previous library I worked at it was a constant struggle to handle all of the kids on Myspace and monitor there usage of our services but since working at my current library I have found that with well organized staff and knowledgeable supervisors that work with you instead of against you it is really quite easy to mange the teens in the library and their use of the Internet.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-48842224374506203242008-01-30T14:46:00.000-08:002008-02-26T16:27:44.263-08:00Thing 3 RSS feedsWell I thought I would try googlereader first on recommendation but I didn't like it. I felt like it was hard to use and after a couple of hours of trying to get the things that I wanted I gave up and tried bloglines and thought it was very easy and within a couple of minutes had everything I wanted on there. I guess it just goes to show that we work differently and have different learning styles.karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-13389252519427951972008-01-30T13:56:00.000-08:002008-02-26T16:28:24.018-08:00Thing 1 Blog ChallengeSo today I added the site meter and it was amazingly easy! Also I, finally, added a picture and my avatar. I really don't like yahoo avatars so I think I might add another avatar from a different site if I have time and patience today.

P.S. I got my background to work. whoo hoo!karebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4347126639124108205.post-28760678425399297672008-01-28T10:18:00.000-08:002008-02-26T16:25:19.187-08:00Thing 1 starting a blog and 23 things on a stickWell I'm starting on 23 things on a stick and even though I am young and very familiar with Myspace and Facebook I've never gotten into blogging. It's been kinda crazy. I'm having a hard time getting a customized layout for my blog to work so we'll see if I can figure it out. I guess that's the point of this.

Good luck to everyone trying to complete this challenge!
Karikarebearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00998517851465528841noreply@blogger.com0
